The Battle of Pony Hollow had been close—too close, by far. K’losk’s ship had taken the least damage, but the rest of us would be hard-pressed to make it back to Anvil Dark under our own power. The Iowa wouldn’t be going anywhere. Not until a lot of repairs were completed.

But it had been a win. And there was more good news. To help take the potential heat off of us, and Earth, my mother and Valint had launched an offensive against the Sorcerers both in The Deeps and along the fringes of known space.

“We’ve got them suppressed, at least for now. But they’re mustering their strength, and they are soon going to start pushing back,” my mother said.

I nodded at her image on the center display. “We’ve got to get ready for them.”

“Actually, Van, way more ready than you know,” Perry said, returning to his perch between the seats.

“What do you mean?”

“Hosurc’a and I just went through the data we lifted from that more or less intact class 7. Remember how Valint said we were compromised? She wasn’t kidding. It’s all there—you, Pony Hollow—the real one, in Iowa—Miryam, Tony Burgess and his people—”

He turned to Torina. “Along with Helso, your parents, Master Cataric—plus Icky’s father, Zeno’s mothers—all of it. Somehow, the Sorcerers have found out about everyone and everything connected to this crew.”

A long, ponderous moment of silence followed.

Funboy was the one to break it.

“That’s not good.”
